The Five Deeps Expedition was a year-long global exploration project dedicated to reaching the deepest point in each of the world’s five oceans. Organized by Caladan Oceanic LLC, the expedition completed its mission in 2019 after travelling 47,000 miles and conducting 39 dives. Its achievements included the first manned descents to the deepest points of the Atlantic, Southern, Indian, Pacific and Arctic oceans, and a record-setting dive to 10,925 meters at Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench. The expedition also demonstrated the ability of a submersible and its pilots to make repeated dives to full ocean depth.

The project combined exploration, engineering and scientific research. Its technology program featured a commercially certified, full-ocean-depth submersible operating from a dedicated research vessel, alongside equipment such as landers and sonar. A multidisciplinary science program studied the deep ocean and its habitats and inhabitants. The expedition brought together a specialist crew, builders, partners and sponsors, and shared its work through media, image galleries, press materials and a five-part Discovery Channel series, Expedition: Deep Planet.
