The idea for Five One Labs originated in 2016 when Alice and Patricia, the co-founders, noticed the need for innovative ideas directly from refugees themselves during their time at the UN Refugee Agency. They established an international startup incubator to support talented entrepreneurs, with a focus on conflict-affected regions and diverse backgrounds. Since 2017, Five One Labs has successfully run 10 incubators in various cities, empowering numerous aspiring entrepreneurs.

By emphasizing Lean Startup methodology, leadership and management techniques, and relevant business skills, Five One Labs' Startup Support team works closely with each entrepreneur to develop the practical skills and knowledge needed for launching and scaling their businesses. In addition, Five One Labs provides seed funding through grants, offers investment services, and cultivates a vibrant ecosystem of innovators through coworking spaces, events, and activities in different fields and sectors. Five One Labs is located in Erbil and Sulaymaniah in Iraq, and has recently launched its newest incubator in Barranquilla, Colombia.
