Fjordskole

Fjordskole is a hands-on marine learning organisation based in Oslo, Norway, offering children and young people practical experiences in, beside and on the Oslofjord. Its programmes connect school subjects with real-world exploration, helping students build knowledge, empathy and confidence to take action for the marine environment. Fjordskole serves primary and secondary schools, upper-secondary students, teachers and after-school programmes.

Activities include exploring the shoreline and its biodiversity, developing water confidence and enjoyment, and taking part in citizen-science projects that contribute data on fjord health, including species and water quality. The organisation provides school visits with learning materials, equipment, safety-led facilitation and follow-up resources for classroom use. Its Havoppdraget programme supports schools in becoming “blue schools” through inspiration, guidance, an app and access to equipment, making ocean learning part of the school year.

Fjordskole also works with schools, researchers, artists and businesses, and shares news and insights through its blog. Its vision is that understanding the sea can create hope, engagement and lasting change
