Franz Josef Strauß was a prominent German politician whose influential career spanned several decades, shaping the political landscape of the Federal Republic of Germany. Born in 1915 in Munich, he uniquely balanced roles as a member of the government and an opposition figure. Strauß was known for his analytical mindset and visionary approach to politics, often reflecting his realist attitude towards governance.

The Hanns Seidel Foundation, established in his honor, continues to uphold his legacy by promoting education and research in the fields of social science and political engagement. The foundation provides various services, including publications, educational programs, and political events that encourage discourse on relevant societal issues. Notably, it hosts commemorative events recognizing Strauß's contributions, including a Political Ash Wednesday gathering that celebrates the rich history of Bavarian politics. Through these efforts, the foundation seeks to inspire future generations to engage in the values of democracy and conservative thought that Strauß championed.
