Flacius Briefwechsel. Digital is a scholarly digital edition dedicated to the correspondence of Matthias Flacius Illyricus (1520–1575), a prominent and controversial sixteenth-century scholar. Reflecting his wide-ranging interests in theology, politics, history, astronomy, geography and interpretation, the letters reveal a European network of scholars and offer insight into the exchange of ideas and culture during a period of religious and political change. They also help researchers trace Flacius’s intellectual development, theological thought and experiences as a migrant across confessional boundaries.

The project presents a comprehensive edition of his correspondence, including dedicatory prefaces and handwritten inscriptions, with historical context, textual criticism and explanatory notes. Its research-oriented digital resources use XML/TEI encoding to describe both the texts and the people, institutions, places, events and works connected with them. Links to authority records and thematic classifications support structured searching and analysis. The website also provides editorial guidelines, search instructions, glossaries and related bibliographic information. Flacius Briefwechsel.
