Flappie is a Swiss cat-care brand founded by brothers Denis and Oliver, who began developing its smart cat flap in 2019 to address the problem of cats bringing prey indoors. Its main product combines a flap, camera, motion sensor, artificial intelligence and app to help keep mice and birds outside while allowing cats to come and go. When the device detects prey, it temporarily keeps the entrance closed and unlocks it again when the cat moves away. Prey detection and locking operate directly on the flap, including without an internet connection.
The Flappie app provides photos and videos, activity and hunting statistics, and controls for entry, exit and scheduled access. The brand also offers Cat ID, designed to let registered cats in while keeping other cats out, along with accessories and installation support. Flappie presents its system as a way for cat owners to gain insight into their pets’ daily lives and manage access to the home.
