FLOATECH is a Horizon 2020 project funded under the Energy programme. With the goal of advancing floating offshore wind energy, FLOATECH aims to increase technical maturity and cost competitiveness in this field. Coordinated by TU Berlin and implemented by 9 partners from 4 EU countries, this project runs from January 2021 to December 2023, receiving a budget of 4 Million € from the European Commission over 3 years.
To achieve its objectives, FLOATECH focuses on two main actions. Firstly, the development and implementation of QBlade-Ocean, a user-friendly and efficient design engineering tool for floating offshore wind turbines. This innovative tool performs simulations with increased accuracy, reducing uncertainties in the design process and improving turbine efficiency.
Secondly, FLOATECH focuses on developing two control techniques: Active Wave-based feed-forward Control and Active Wake Mixing. By combining wave prediction and platform motion anticipation, these techniques aim to minimize wake effects in floating wind farms, thereby increasing energy production. Overall, FLOATECH's consortium of 9 partners from 4 countries collaborates to advance floating offshore wind technology and contribute to the reduction of Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE)
