The Flood Science Center (FSC), a key initiative of the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM), is dedicated to enhancing understanding and communication of flood science. Established in 2003, FSC has evolved from a single project manager to a dynamic team of eight professionals, offering a wealth of technical expertise. The center's mission is to study the multifaceted aspects of flooding, including its technical, biological, social, and economic effects, particularly in light of climate change.

FSC plays a pivotal role in developing state-of-the-science analyses, technical reports, and training materials. Every year, the center manages over 50 active projects that cater to national, regional, and local needs, fostering collaboration with numerous federal and academic partners. They provide essential resources—such as mapping applications and a comprehensive library with more than 7,000 publications—supporting floodplain management efforts. With a commitment to building resilience against flooding, FSC is instrumental in addressing the challenges posed by changing water dynamics across the nation.
