FloraPulse is a brand that has revolutionized the way growers monitor water stress in plants. The brand's journey began in the 1970s when Alan Lakso, a professor of Horticulture at Cornell, struggled with the manual pressure chamber used to measure water stress in apple trees and grapevines. Alan envisioned a sensor that could directly and continuously monitor water stress with ease.

This vision became a reality when Abraham Stroock, a professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, combined his research on water tension in plants with nanotechnology methods. The result was the development of FloraPulse's flagship product, the microtensiometer. Over the next decade, the brand's dedicated team perfected the sensor chip design, built prototypes, and conducted extensive field testing.

Their cross-disciplinary research and development efforts led to two patents and the creation of the current sensor prototypes. Supported by USDA and NSF grants, FloraPulse received recognition for their innovations in food and agricultural sciences. In 2018, the first FloraPulse systems were sold to growers and scientists worldwide.
