The Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail is a statewide network of more than 500 wildlife-viewing sites, created to help people discover Florida’s native birds, butterflies, and other wildlife. A program of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Trail is supported in part by the Florida Department of Transportation and the Fish and Wildlife Foundation of Florida, with contributions from public agencies, organizations, and private landowners.
Visitors can explore sites across the Panhandle, East, West, and South regions, with information to help plan outings and enjoy wildlife responsibly. The website offers birding basics, field guides, checklists, trail guides, and practical advice for preparing to visit. It also shares seasonal tips, conservation stories, species features, and news through its Kite Tales articles and newsletter.
The Trail promotes birding events and festivals around the state, and its free Wings Over Florida program recognizes bird and butterfly viewing achievements with certificates. Visitors can also find Birding Trail apparel and information about choosing binoculars.
