Florida Veterans for Common Sense Fund (FLVCS Fund) is committed to fostering community, assisting veterans, and enhancing environmental sustainability through innovative projects like the SURF Microforest Initiative. Collaborating with local organizations such as the Rotary Club of Sarasota Bay and Solutions to Avoid Red Tide (START), FLVCS Fund has established a microforest at the Celery Fields, aimed at sequestering carbon to combat climate change. Utilizing the Miyawaki method, the project promotes rapid growth of native species, significantly enhancing biodiversity.

The microforest not only serves as a carbon sink, potentially sequestering around 600 tons over 30 years, but also plays a critical role in intercepting and filtering rainwater to reduce pollution and flooding. By transforming the open field into a dense forest habitat, it enhances recreational space for walkers and bird watchers, contributing to the ecological richness of the region. Supported by community donations and the dedication of volunteers, FLVCS Fund envisions expanding this initiative across Southwest Florida, making a substantial environmental impact while building community spirit.
