About Fluidic
Prof. Moran Bercovici’s Fluidic Technologies Laboratory is a research group at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, led by Professor of Mechanical Engineering Moran Bercovici. Driven by curiosity, the lab investigates fluid mechanics and electrokinetics, studying the physics and chemistry of fluids and applying that knowledge to new tools and capabilities. Its work spans advanced manufacturing, freeform optics, microfluidics, in-space manufacturing, and biochemical analysis.
The laboratory develops methods to shape liquid films and create optical components through controlled surface tension, electric forces, and light-induced heating. Its projects include programmable fabrication of diffractive optical elements, reconfigurable microfluidic devices, and faster electroosmotic flow for manipulating fluids at microscale. Through LiquiFab, the team explores forming smooth, full or hollow polymer structures in weightlessness, while the FLUTE project investigates whether large, high-quality lenses and mirrors can be made from liquids in space. The lab also conducts theoretical and experimental research, builds specialized prototypes and measurement tools, and shares its findings through publications and project resources.
