Fluorochemicals South Africa (FSA) is a South African company developing a commercially scaled fluorochemical industry to process fluorspar into advanced chemical products. Its flagship initiative, Project CAPE, is planned for the Coega Special Economic Zone in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. The proposed development includes 100,000 tonnes per year of fluorochemical capacity, anchored by a 60,000-tonne-per-year facility for high-purity anhydrous hydrogen fluoride and hydrofluoric acid. FSA describes these materials as important precursors for sectors including semiconductors, renewable energy, electric mobility and energy storage.

The company plans to build precursor production facilities and work with partners on downstream products such as lithium salts, fluororefrigerants and fluoropolymers. These materials have applications across batteries, electronics, coatings, refrigeration, healthcare, automotive, aerospace and agriculture. Project CAPE is targeting completion of its bankable feasibility stage by mid-2027, with construction planned to begin by the end of 2027 and initial production expected from 2029.
