About Flussbad Berlin
Flussbad Berlin is a city development initiative led by Berlin citizens who aim to reactivate the Spree Canal as a valuable public space in the heart of Berlin. This project focuses on revitalizing the canal to make it clean, attractive, and accessible for pedestrians, recreational activities, and swimmers. By rediscovering and experiencing the previously neglected canal, Flussbad Berlin showcases the potential of sustainable urban development when implemented in a multifunctional, socially inclusive, and participatory manner.
Through the reutilization of existing resources and necessary improvements to the wastewater system, the project aims to meet the urban need of creating new public spaces for the Berlin community. In short, Flussbad Berlin complements the cultural and societal significance of Berlin's historical center by adding a desirable aspect, a clean river, strengthening the appeal of this predominantly representative district for Berliners and ensuring long-term sustainability as a cultural landscape
