Flyin' Heroes

Flyin’ Heroes is a program that uses fly fishing to support therapeutic growth and rehabilitation for U.S. military veterans. Its mission is to create memorable experiences on the water while helping participants build lasting relationships and access the restorative benefits of fishing. Based in West Michigan, the program offers guided float trips on the Pere Marquette, Muskegon, and White rivers, as well as fishing outings on inland lakes in the region.

Participants receive instruction in the basic techniques of fly fishing and/or light-tackle fishing. Depending on each person’s comfort level, trips take place from a drift boat, along a riverbank, or while wading in the river. The experiences can involve a range of species and fishing tactics; recent outings have focused on bass, northern pike, and muskellunge in the lower Muskegon River.

Flyin’ Heroes shares trip updates and stories from its veteran anglers and invites supporters to donate. The program states that 100% of each contribution goes toward resources for creating fishing experiences for participating veterans.
