Flysouth is an aviation-focused website documenting the restoration and modification of a Grumman AA1B Yankee aircraft. Its central feature is an online build journal following the recovery of a damaged 1972 airframe and its long-term rebuild, including the search for missing wings and components. The project’s distinctive goal is to replace the conventional Lycoming engine with a Chevrolet 262-cubic-inch V6, exploring the practical challenges of adapting automotive power to a small aircraft.
The site also shares background on the Grumman AA1 family, including the Yankee’s origins as a trainer and sport aircraft, and provides information about Grumman aircraft in South Africa. Visitors can browse build-log installments, photographs, videos, and galleries featuring Grummans and other aircraft, such as the Spitfire, Pietenpol, and KR2. Additional sections cover the author, aviation stories, and contact information. Flysouth is an independent, personal aviation resource for readers interested in aircraft restoration, experimental engine conversions, and the history and experience of flying light aircraft.
