About FMB
The Bussaco Forest Foundation (Fundação Mata do Bussaco) promotes and provides access to the Mata Nacional do Bussaco, a protected area in the Serra do Bussaco and a Portuguese National Monument since 2018. The forest combines natural heritage, including diverse flora and fauna, with historic sites such as the Convent of Santa Cruz, hermitages, the Via-Sacra, gardens and the Palace Hotel do Bussaco. Visitors can explore walking trails and themed routes, join guided tours led by Foundation monitors, or experience the forest through a 360-degree virtual visit.
The Foundation also offers educational programmes for schools, youth groups, institutions, families and other visitors, alongside workshops and public events. Its visitor services include information to help plan a visit, a forest products shop and online store, a café and lounge, event spaces, electric vehicles and accommodation at Casas do Bussaco. People can support the Foundation through volunteering or the Friends of the Forest membership card.
