The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, known as FMV, is a government agency under Sweden’s Ministry of Defence. Its mission is to help ensure that the Swedish Armed Forces have the equipment and logistical services needed to carry out their duties. FMV procures, develops and delivers defence materiel, technology and services, supporting Sweden’s defence needs in peacetime, during crises and in war.

The agency brings together specialists in engineering, procurement, business, law and project management. It manages around 700 materiel projects, commissioning new capabilities where needed and acquiring proven systems available on the market. Its work spans land, air and space, naval equipment, command systems, logistics, transport, testing and evaluation. Projects highlighted by FMV include the Gripen aircraft, the A26 submarine, the Visby-class corvette and Archer.

FMV also works with suppliers through procurements ranging from complex, long-term programmes to smaller orders and innovation challenges, and participates in international defence cooperation.
