Garamantas.Lv

Garamantas.lv is the digital archive of the Latvian Folklore Collection, established in 1924, making it the oldest and largest center in Latvia for the collection, preservation, publication, and research of folklore. With approximately 3 million folklore units, the archive houses manuscripts, audio and video recordings, as well as photographs that portray both the narrators of folklore and the history of folklore collection in Latvia. The digital archive aims to provide free online access to these valuable materials, facilitating public engagement with traditional songs, tales, and texts while highlighting their significance to Latvian culture.

Garamantas.lv serves as a vital resource for researchers and students of folklore and intangible cultural heritage, featuring advanced metadata systems and classification tools for efficient material access. The platform fosters community participation by inviting individuals to assist in transcribing manuscripts, translating content, and identifying individuals in photographs. Collaboratively developed with various cultural organizations, Garamantas.lv is a significant contribution to the preservation and promotion of Latvia's rich folkloric legacy.
