Civil society organization Zajecar Initiative established Foundation Step Forward in February 2013 with goal to contribute to community development in Timok Region even more effectively through strengthening of local philanthropy. Zajecar Initiative launched its very first grantmaking program titled “Step Forward” in 2007. Today, Zajecar Initiative has 5 grantmaking programs and more than 160 local projects supported in the total amount of 250.000 USD. From the very beginning, Zajecar Initiative has realized that such programs that supporting citizens to engage with local problems are of key importance for community development and that more significant use of local resources is necessary. Thus, Local Philanthropy Development became one of strategic directions of Zajecar initiative. Zajecar Initiative presented the plan and model for establishing the community foundation in the Timok Region during the conference that it organized in Zajecar in 2008. Five years after, the first community foundation in Serbia was established and named after the first grantmaking program of Zajecar Initiative.

About Fondacija Iskorak
