Progetto Islander Onlus

Fondazione Islander is an Italian Third Sector organization dedicated to protecting horses and other equids, including ponies, donkeys, mules and hinnies. It rescues animals from situations of abuse, including cases involving legal seizures, and provides the physical and psychological rehabilitation they need to recover. Once ready, animals are placed in foster care or adopted through established procedures and regulations.

The foundation’s La Mia Terra site serves as its Recovery Center, where animals are housed free of charge. Its work also extends across Italy, supporting equids beyond the center and assisting people who care for rescued horses in need of treatment. Fondazione Islander organizes fundraising initiatives to help meet the needs of abused horses and advocates for changes to regulations that better protect equine health and welfare. Its activities include reporting and responding to abuse, recovery and rehabilitation, fostering and adoption, and support for stray animals. The organization invites the public to contribute through donations, remote adoption, volunteering, partnerships and Italy’s 5×1000 tax-donation scheme.
