About Kanton Zürich
Kanton Zürich is home to the leading forensic competence center in Switzerland, the Forensisches Institut Zürich (FOR). With a comprehensive range of services, the FOR employs approximately 160 police officers and civilian staff, combining police expertise with scientific and technical knowledge. As the premier forensic center in the country, the FOR takes on central tasks for both national and international partner organizations.
The institute regularly publishes specialized articles in various fields of criminal science and accident analysis, emphasizing its commitment to an open information policy. However, due to legal constraints, information on ongoing cases is provided exclusively through the media offices of the Canton or City Police of Zürich. Established in 2010 by merging the forensics departments of the Canton Police of Zürich and the Scientific Services of the City Police of Zürich, the FOR benefits from close collaboration with the two main partner organizations.
