Forest2Farm

Forest2Farm is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to advancing sustainable practices that benefit forests, farms, soil, water, air, and climate. Its central focus is converting excess forest residue into biochar, a stable charcoal-like material made by heating woody debris with minimal oxygen. Rather than burning or leaving residue to decompose, this approach can reduce polluting emissions and excess wildfire fuel while creating a soil amendment.

Forest2Farm promotes applying biochar to degraded cropland, rangeland, and forestland to improve soil nutrition, organic matter, and water-holding capacity, supporting soil organisms and crop production. The organization also supports related approaches, including combining biomass power generation with biochar production and using biochar to reduce nitrogen runoff from farmland and concentrated animal feed operations.

To advance these practices, Forest2Farm emphasizes demonstrations and education for farmers, forestry personnel, educators, and policymakers. It also monitors progress and potential benefits for forest health, food production, water conservation and purity, and climate. The organization invites public support through donations, which it states are tax deductible.
