About Japanese
The Japan Forest Society, established in 1914, is the only comprehensive organization in Japan dedicated to the fields of forestry and forest sciences. Based in Tokyo, the society aims to advance research related to the value and functions of forests, contributing significantly to the enhancement of life and culture for the public and humanity as a whole. With nearly 3,000 members, including regular, institutional, supporting, and associate members, the society collaborates with six related organizations across Japan to host annual academic conferences. These events feature research presentations, symposiums, workshops, and field tours.
The Japan Forest Society publishes several regular publications, including the Journal of Forest Research and the Japan Forest Society Journal, which disseminate significant research findings. The society also engages in various initiatives such as promoting diversity, recognizing outstanding research achievements, and fostering international exchanges to further knowledge in forest science and forestry management. Its wide-ranging research areas include forest ecology, resource management, and the study of associated disciplines, underscoring a commitment to both academic advancement and social development.
