About Forests Trees and Agroforestry
FTA Partnership | Bogor is a brand focused on harnessing the power of forests, trees, and agroforestry to address major development demands. It is an expansion and renewal of the historic FTA partnership, building upon the knowledge and experience gained during the CRP FTA2 from 2011 to 2021. The aim of FTAP is to support both public and private actors, including farmers, foresters, Indigenous Peoples, and local communities, in utilizing forests, trees, and agroforestry for sustainable development.
FTAP achieves this by co-generating knowledge, linking scientific and indigenous knowledge, developing adapted solutions, and providing advice on scaling up and out for greater impact. The partnership primarily targets countries where there is a need for improved enabling environments in the agricultural and forestry sectors. Smallholders, indigenous peoples, and local communities who depend on farms and forests for their livelihoods will benefit from FTAP's work.
The objectives of FTAP focus on enhancing the contributions of forests, trees, and agroforestry to six of the Sustainable Development Goals. This includes reducing deforestation, increasing sustainable management of farm and forest areas, optimizing the substitution of non-renewable resources, and improving livelihoods, inclusion, and nutrition worldwide. The partnership achieves these objectives through knowledge and solutions generation, evidence-based advocacy and engagement, and operational collaboration with stakeholders.
The FTA Partnership operates with core and associated partners, who participate in the strategic orientation and governance of the partnership. A Secretariat supports the partnership's work by facilitating communication, and a variety of activities, including cross-cutting research, integrative activities, and transformative research for development projects, are pursued. As of June 2022, FTAP has 16 organizations signed on as partners.
By leveraging the potential of forests, trees, and agroforestry, FTAP envisions a world where these natural resources play a vital role in sustainable development that benefits both people and the planet
