Forgotten Lives is a community history project dedicated to preserving the memory of Saskatchewan’s pioneers and connecting people with the places they left behind. Run by a team of nonprofit authors and contributors, the site documents historic homes, barns, churches, schools, cemeteries, and other locations associated with earlier generations. Its goal is to make information about these sites accessible and help people build connections between the past, present, and future.

Entries include GPS coordinates, which may be exact or approximate, and can be explored through an online map. The project combines photographs and location records with mapping and geographic information tools, using systems such as OpenLayers, QGIS, PostgreSQL, and PostGIS. Its map draws on geographic data from sources including OpenStreetMap, GeoBase, and GeoSask. The site’s contributors travel to record locations, add points to the project database, and photograph places of interest, including cemetery headstones. Forgotten Lives also welcomes questions, comments, tips, concerns, and special requests for photographing historic homesteads.
