The Swedish Armed Forces, known in Swedish as Försvarsmakten, is Sweden’s national defence organisation. Its mission is to defend Sweden, its allies and people’s freedom to live as they choose. The organisation protects the country and also contributes to peace and security in other parts of the world. As a member of NATO, Sweden participates in the alliance’s collective defence.

The Armed Forces operate across land, sea and air, and are developing military capabilities as Sweden strengthens its defence. They offer several ways to serve or build a career, including basic military training through conscription, full-time employment and part-time roles that can be combined with civilian work or study. Opportunities are available to people with military experience as well as those without it.

The organisation also provides information and services for the public, including guidance on military training, recruitment, events, firing ranges and restricted areas, permits, public records and procurement.
