Forum Nachhaltiges Palmöl (FONAP) is an association consisting of 51 companies, non-governmental organizations, associations, the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). FONAP aims to significantly increase the share of sustainably produced palm oil on the German, Austrian, and Swiss markets while improving existing standards and certifications. FONAP members have committed to using only 100% sustainably produced palm and palm kernel oil in their products.

They also strive for traceability of the palm oil used and adhere to certain additional criteria not covered by certification systems. FONAP supporters commit to promoting sustainable palm oil products by annually increasing the proportion of certified goods. FONAP and its members send a clear signal to production countries, certification systems, and the public that companies in Germany are taking responsibility in global supply chains and aim to improve social, economic, and environmental conditions in palm oil-producing countries.

This contributes to the availability of 100% sustainably certified palm (kernel) oil and derivatives. Moreover, increased demand for sustainable palm oil and the desire to establish additional criteria and traceability will lead to improved and sustainable practices in the palm oil sector in the long run
