About The Forward Trust
The Forward Trust is a social justice charity established in 1991, supporting people across England and Wales in prison and community settings. Its work helps people recover from addiction, move away from crime and build more stable, fulfilling lives with family, friends, employment, housing and a sense of belonging. The charity provides support for drug and alcohol use, mental health, criminal justice, employment, housing and resettlement, as well as residential treatment and recovery services.
It also offers family support, specialist programmes and peer support through Forward Connect. Services are available in regions across England and Wales, with guidance to help people find support locally. The Forward Trust’s campaigns, including More Than My Past and Taking Action on Addiction, share recovery stories, challenge stigma and encourage better understanding of addiction and rehabilitation.
People can also support its work by donating, fundraising, volunteering, joining events or partnering with the charity. In 2024–25, the organisation reported supporting 31,780 clients, with many staff bringing lived experience to their roles
