Fossil Trace Golf Club is a golf destination in Golden, Colorado, about 20 minutes west of downtown Denver. Opened in 2003, it is recognized as one of the region’s leading courses and has received “Best Golf Course in Denver” honors. Its distinctive setting pairs a mountain-course feel with an urban location, framed by the Rocky Mountain foothills and Table Mountain.
The course’s rolling terrain, broad undulating fairways, challenging bunkers, and varied holes offer a modern test for golfers. Its character is also shaped by the area’s prehistoric and industrial history: visitors can see fossil traces near the 12th green, including dinosaur footprints and a palm-leaf fossil, as well as remnants of clay-mining equipment. A clubhouse exhibit shares more about the property and its discoveries.
Fossil Trace offers tee-time reservations, course tours, practice facilities, and golf instruction for players of different ages and abilities, including private lessons and junior programs. The club also provides club fitting, outings and events, food and drink, and an online shop.
