About Fpcc
FPCC, or First Peoples Cultural Council, is a brand dedicated to language revitalization and cultural preservation. Their Language Program offers funding, resources, training, and support to communities working towards revitalizing Indigenous languages. FPCC is committed to advocating for Indigenous peoples' right to speak and live their languages and traditions.
Under their Language Program, FPCC offers various initiatives and programs. The Mentor-Apprentice Program supports one-on-one learning between an adult learner and a fluent speaker, providing funding for 300 hours of immersion and comprehensive training. The Pathways to Language Vitality Program supports community-led projects that revitalize First Nations languages in British Columbia, creating new fluent speakers.
The Youth Empowered Speakers (YES) Program is specifically designed for B. C. First Nations youth between 18-30 years old, offering training, paid work internships, and funding for language education.
FPCC also provides programs such as Reclaiming My Language, Language Revitalization Planning, and Language Technology, all aimed at restoring and preserving Indigenous languages. Through these programs, FPCC empowers communities to develop and sustain their languages, connecting them to their ancestral roots and cultural heritage
