About Food Reserve Agency
The Food Reserve Agency (FRA), established in 1995 by the Government of the Republic of Zambia under the Food Reserve Act Chapter 225, plays a crucial role in ensuring food security in the nation. With a vision to secure national strategic food reserves, FRA is dedicated to facilitating the availability of essential crops, including maize, soya beans, and paddy rice. In 2022, they successfully managed a significant reserve of 170,000 metric tons of maize, along with 1,500 metric tons of soya beans and 1,000 metric tons of paddy rice.
FRA operates over 1,200 depots nationwide, effectively reaching rural areas and supporting local farmers. The agency also engages in various programs and initiatives, including a maize sales program and comprehensive annual reports, to maintain transparency and support agricultural development in Zambia. Committed to its mission, FRA continues to foster a sustainable and robust agricultural sector, contributing to the nation's economy and food sovereignty.
