Fræ til framtíðar is a brand dedicated to cultivating a healthy future by promoting the cultivation of nutritious food in schools. This innovative project, in collaboration with Landbúnaðarháskóli Íslands and supported by Matarauður Íslands, focuses on teaching third-grade students in five schools in Bolungarvík, Ísafirði, Þingeyri, Tálknafirði, and Patreksfirði to grow their own food.

Fræ til framtíðar has developed a simple and efficient system in collaboration with Fab Lab, which the students assemble and prepare themselves. The seeds are planted and once the roots are established, they are placed in the water cultivation system, where a nutrient solution flows through the roots for four to five weeks, ensuring optimal growth.

Through this exciting project, children learn not only about the needs of plants, such as sunlight, nutrients, and water, but also the importance of love and care. By nurturing plants with affection and warmth, they develop a deeper understanding of how love and nurturing can foster growth and flourishing. Additionally, the project aims to instill values such as sustainability, food security, and conscious consumption in the students.

Fræ til framtíðar encourages students to be creative and curious, allowing them to measure various parameters such as water temperature, electrical conductivity, and pH levels, which they record in a journal. They are also encouraged to experiment and make small adjustments to the cultivation process, fostering innovation and critical thinking.
