The Frank Sargeson Trust preserves the legacy of Frank Sargeson (1903–1982), one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most influential twentieth-century writers. Sargeson created short stories, novels and nonfiction in a distinctive, homegrown vernacular that helped shape a recognizably New Zealand literature. His influence extended beyond his own writing: he provided a generous centre for a literary circle and supported the development of writers including Janet Frame, C.K. Stead, Maurice Duggan, Kevin Ireland, Maurice Gee and Owen Marshall.
The Trust’s work focuses on caring for Sargeson’s literary and cultural legacy. It maintains Frank Sargeson House on Esmonde Road in Takapuna, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, and administers the writer’s fellowship named in his honour. Through these responsibilities, the Trust sustains connections to Sargeson’s life, work and influence on New Zealand writing. Its website provides information about the writer, his house, the Trust and the fellowship, along with news and other updates.
