The FRDC is widely recognised as the leading Australian agency concerned with planning, funding and managing fisheries research and development. The FRDC does not undertake research itself; rather it identifies research and development needs - and the means of addressing them - through a planning process and by contracting with research providers. Stakeholders in the FRDC are the fishing industry; the governments of the Commonwealth, the states and the territories; and the people of Australia. The FRDC acknowledge Australia’s Indigenous People who are the Traditional Owners of country throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. We pay our respect to their Elders both past and present and extend that respect to all Indigenous People.

About FRDC
FRDC, the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation, is a leading organization dedicated to planning and investing in fisheries research and development (R&D). Our goal is to ensure the ongoing sustainability of both aquatic sectors and ecosystems. As a co-funded partnership between the Australian Government and fisheries and aquaculture sectors, we play a critical role in supporting the fishing and aquaculture industries.
Under the Primary Industries Research and Development Act 1989, FRDC operates as a statutory corporation and is accountable to the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry. Our primary focus is to plan, invest in, and manage R&D initiatives that benefit the fishing and aquaculture sector as well as the wider community. At FRDC, we foster knowledge and innovation resulting from our research and encourage its adoption for maximum impact.
In addition, we coordinate efforts between the government and industry stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration. Through our dedication to research and development, FRDC contributes to the sustainability and growth of Australia's aquatic industries while ensuring the protection of aquatic ecosystems
