Fred’s Camp is a family-owned summer day camp in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, where it has been a summertime tradition since 1994. Founded by lifelong educator Fred Greenburg and his wife, Lynne, the camp was created to bring the friendships, traditions, and spirit of overnight camp to a city-based day camp. Today, Fred’s children, Jodi and Mark, continue its legacy with longtime staff and former campers.
Serving children from junior kindergarten through eighth grade, Fred’s Camp offers age-based programs for junior, senior, and tween campers. Activities include swimming and the Fred’s Basketball Association, with opportunities for children to explore, make friends, try new things, and build independence. The camp emphasizes safety and aims to provide a caring, supportive environment where campers can feel comfortable being themselves and grow in confidence.
The regular camp day runs Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with before- and after-care available. Rooted in generations of family involvement, Fred’s Camp offers Chicago families a welcoming summer experience focused on community, lasting memories, and traditions children can look forward to year after year.
