About Freedom Cartoonists
The Freedom Cartoonists Foundation is a leading organization dedicated to promoting and defending editorial cartooning as a vital element of free speech and democracy. Founded in Geneva, the Foundation emphasizes the role of political cartoons in civic debate, advocating for the rights of cartoonists worldwide. The Foundation's signature initiatives include the biennial International Cartoonist Award, which recognizes outstanding editorial cartoonists for their contributions to human rights, and a dedicated Support Fund that assists cartoonists facing threats or persecution.
The Foundation also hosts educational projects aimed at inspiring creativity and fostering values of tolerance, justice, and equality among youth. Established in 2006, and originally known as the Swiss Foundation Cartooning for Peace, the Freedom Cartoonists Foundation continues the legacy of its honorary chair, the late Kofi Annan.
