Laughing Horse Free Festival is a major Edinburgh Fringe festival and comedy producer, bringing audiences an affordable programme of live entertainment each August. Its 2026 festival runs from 6 to 30 August, with more than 350 shows and over 6,700 performances at venues across Edinburgh. The programme spans comedy, cabaret, theatre, music, musicals and opera, spoken word, children’s shows, courses, events and tours, showcasing both emerging talent and established performers.
Audiences can browse shows by date, genre, venue or name through the festival’s online programme. Entry is either free and unticketed, with donations invited after the performance, or Pay What You Can, allowing audiences to book a ticket at a chosen price. For walk-in donations and ticketed shows, 100% of ticket payments and donations go directly to performers.
The festival also shares show news and reviews, provides practical information and resources for performers, and invites central Edinburgh venues to explore hosting shows. Its programme aims to make Fringe entertainment accessible while giving artists opportunities to perform and experiment.
