About Free the Bears
Free the Bears is an Australian wildlife conservation and animal welfare organization that is dedicated to protecting and saving three of the world's least-known bear species: sun bears, moon bears (Asiatic black bears), and sloth bears. With a mission to rescue these bears from suffering, torture, and the threat of extinction, Free the Bears works closely with local communities and governments in Asia. Since its establishment in 1995 by Mary Hutton, Free the Bears has made a significant impact.
Over 950 bears have been rescued, including those involved in the cruel Indian dancing bear tradition. The organization has also established sanctuaries in Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, with the largest sun bear sanctuary in the world located in Cambodia. Free the Bears collaborates with government partners to rescue, research, and protect these vulnerable bear species.
They also provide education and awareness programs, volunteer opportunities, and support groups to raise funds and increase awareness about bear conservation.
