Friedenslicht is a significant initiative rooted in the tradition of peace and community, spearheaded by the Ring deutscher Pfadfinder*innenverbände (rdp) and the Verband Deutscher Altpfadfindergilden (VDAPG). Each year, a candle is lit in Bethlehem, symbolizing hope and unity, and then transported to Germany, where it is distributed by dedicated scouts during numerous ceremonies leading up to Christmas. Since its inception in 1986, this heartfelt tradition has sowed the seeds of peace among diverse communities.

The 2024 theme, "Vielfalt leben, Zukunft gestalten" (Embrace Diversity, Shape the Future), highlights the organization's commitment to inclusivity and positive change. Throughout the year, various events and activities foster engagement, encouraging participants to embody the motto. The Friedenslicht reflects the dedication of approximately 170,000 members within the rdp, focusing on the needs of youth and community collaboration.
