About FriendNet
FriendNet is an open-source, self-hostable file-sharing project designed for sharing files among friends and groups. It offers a private alternative to larger peer-to-peer networks, with a simple, community-focused approach compared on its website to a mini-Soulseek. Users can host a private room, share folders stored on their computers, create profiles, and search for files shared by others in the room.
FriendNet is designed to work even when users are behind symmetric NAT, and port forwarding is optional, making it easier to connect without changing router settings. For people familiar with BitTorrent, running a FriendNet server is similar to operating a private tracker: the host can provide a dedicated space for a selected community to share content. The project provides downloads, screenshots, news, and documentation, along with links to its GitHub repository and public servers.
