Friends of Historic Halifax

Friends of Historic Halifax, Inc. (FOHH) is a nonprofit support organization associated with North Carolina’s Historic Halifax State Historic Site in Halifax County. Its work helps sustain, improve, maintain, and equip the site while fostering historical appreciation, community pride, cultural wellness, and local economic development. FOHH also works with site staff, municipalities, and community organizations to support volunteers and build long-term financial backing.

Historic Halifax interprets the area’s history, including the Revolutionary-era events surrounding the Halifax Resolves of April 12, 1776, an early documented colonial step toward independence. The site also shares the histories of Native peoples, including the Haliwa-Saponi Tribe, and African Americans, including the Underground Railroad connection along lower King Street. Visitors may explore historic buildings independently or join scheduled tours led by costumed interpreters.

FOHH supports projects such as restoration and landscaping at the William Richardson Davie House, research into descendants of the delegates, and living-history activities. The organization offers membership and shares newsletters, historical articles, books, and gifts to engage supporters and visitors.
