Friends of Midas

Friends of Midas is a Nevada nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and presenting the history of Midas, a quiet mining town in Elko County established in 1907. The town anchors the 115-year-old Gold Circle Mining District in northern Nevada and has a small number of full-time residents, with a wider community connected through its history. Friends of Midas welcomes visitors, both online and in person, to learn about this historic place.

The organization shares local history through resources on Midas’s people, places, and past, including cemetery information, historical stories, photographs, and a video presentation of ground-penetrating radar findings. Its book, A Century of Enthusiasm: Midas, Nevada, 1907–2007, recounts the town’s first century through photographs and stories, with sales supporting historic preservation. Friends of Midas also invites people to contribute photographs and personal or family stories, and its archives may help those researching former residents. Supported by memberships and donations, the organization qualifies as an educational charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
