Friends of Porus Association Inc. is a New York-registered nonprofit that has supported the community of Porus, Manchester, Jamaica, for more than 30 years. Organized by members of the Porus diaspora, the association works to improve local well-being while strengthening pride in the town and its traditions.
Its charitable assistance supports senior citizens and other residents in need, and its community projects aim to improve everyday life in Porus. The organization also promotes education by providing financial support to schools and educational activities through gifts, scholarships, and grants. Recent outreach has included a back-to-school shoe drive that raised more than JMD 1,000,000 to provide over 200 pairs of shoes to eight primary and infant schools, as well as contributions of books to school libraries.
Friends of Porus brings people together through homecoming celebrations, reunions, workshops, and fundraising events. It invites individuals and businesses to donate, sponsor, partner, attend events, or request assistance
