Friends of Spruce Woods Inc. is an incorporated, volunteer-led nonprofit organization that supports Spruce Woods Provincial Park in Manitoba. Founded on June 15, 1986, the group serves as a citizen advisory organization, providing supplemental assistance to the provincial Parks branch in the park’s ongoing operation. Its mission includes promoting and enhancing public enjoyment of the area’s local flora and fauna. All net revenue and donations are directed toward projects or activities benefiting Spruce Woods Provincial Park, in consultation with the park manager.
The organization helps visitors discover the park’s distinctive landscapes, which span 269 square kilometres and include mixed-grass prairie, remnant boreal forest, the Assiniboine River, Epinette Creek, ancient sand dunes and the Devils Punchbowl. Park experiences include camping, multi-use trails, interpretive programs and a visitor centre, as well as an equestrian campground and riding trails. Friends of Spruce Woods also provides information about park facilities, camping, equestrian activities and events, and operates a gift shop during business hours from May to September.
