Friends of The Autism Place (FOTAP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports The Autism Place at Illinois State University. Founded in 2009 by parents whose family members received services from the program, FOTAP works to advance autism awareness and education, strengthen community understanding, and provide financial support so The Autism Place can serve families affected by autism-related disorders.
The organization raises funds and coordinates community support for the program’s needs. Its efforts have helped address service waitlists, sustain operations during funding challenges, cover lease costs and supplies, and relocate the program when necessary. FOTAP is also seeking support for a capital campaign to help fund a permanent building, along with other program expenses.
Community members can contribute through monetary donations, supplies, volunteering, and partnerships. The organization also shares resources, including books, sensory ideas, and a lending library, and provides information about events, its board, and family testimonials. Through these activities, Friends of TAP aims to help The Autism Place continue serving families from a range of social, ethnic, and economic backgrounds.
