Formed initially to combat the threat posed by fish farms near the Skeena River's mouth, the organization has successfully expanded its focus. Their efforts now include safeguarding the headwaters of the Skeena from coalbed methane drilling, opposing the Enbridge Northern Gateway oil pipeline and tankers proposal, and defending the Skeena Estuary from the potential impact of Petronas' Pacific Northwest LNG project.

The group actively monitors various proposed industrial developments within the watershed, including LNG and mining projects, while promoting sustainable estuary planning strategies for the Skeena River.
