Fireball Recovery and InterPlanetary Observation Network (FRIPON) is an international consortium dedicated to the scientific observation and study of meteor phenomena. Utilizing a comprehensive network of advanced detection systems across various countries, including Austria, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, FRIPON captures and analyzes fireballs—bright meteor explosions that occur when meteoroids enter the Earth's atmosphere.
The organization offers a variety of services, including an open-access database for fireball observations and meteorite recovery reports. FRIPON's unique hardware and software set-up enhances the detection, storage, and reduction of data collected from meteor observations, while also contributing to important scientific publications.
Significant events, such as the recent recovery of meteorites following notable fireball sightings, demonstrate the network's active engagement in enhancing our understanding of celestial phenomena. As the community continues to grow, FRIPON plays a pivotal role in fostering collaboration among both amateur and professional astronomers worldwide.
