About FrogID
FrogID is an innovative nationwide citizen science initiative launched by the Australian Museum in November 2017, designed to help monitor and conserve Australia's unique frog populations. With over 250 frog species, many of which are endemic to Australia, these amphibians play an essential role in maintaining environmental health. The FrogID app allows users to record and share frog calls, generating valuable data that scientists can use to assess species diversity, breeding patterns, and ecosystem health.
By providing time-stamped, geo-referenced recordings, participants contribute to a comprehensive database that enhances understanding of frog distributions and helps inform conservation efforts. As many Australian frogs face serious threats, including extinction, FrogID aims to raise public awareness and foster community involvement in ecological research.
