FrozenSteel

FrozenSteel.nl is the online portfolio of Amsterdam-based Dutch artist and craftsman Wichert van Engelen, whose handmade sculptures bring together bronze, steel and glass. Rooted in traditional craft, his work explores the strength, texture and expressive possibilities of these materials, balancing industrial character with elegance, fine detail and light. Inspired by nature and everyday objects, his creations range from bronze pieces celebrating natural forms to dynamic steel sculptures and glass works that play with transparency and contrast. Some sculptures combine glass with bronze or stone, while his cheerful “art with a wink” offers a lighter take on contemporary art.

Van Engelen uses techniques including bronze casting, lost-wax casting, welding, blacksmithing, glass blowing and glass fusing. The website presents his work, artistic development and studio practice, and explains how clients can purchase available sculptures or commission a unique art object. His work is made in varied sizes for collectors, galleries and art lovers. Visitors can also learn about the Amsterdam workshop where artists and craftspeople work with metal, wood and other materials.
